The 2470 I am looking at has a real problem downshifting. It will throw you right through the wind shield if your not carefull when downshifting. The case dealer said he could adjust it when it was warm, but does the same thing yet.Any help is appreciated greatly.Dave A

Some of ours are like that some aren't. Not to the point of slamming you into the wheel but a bit jerky. Have 3 1070's, 2 1270's, and a 2390. The oldest 1070 and 1270 seem to be the best shifting for some odd reason. Maybe since they both have over 10,000 on them and are broken in!

Hey Dave: Have you had previous experience with the CASE RPS-34 Power Shift prior to this? In my opinion it's not made for downshifting when not under load & lugging. When not under load, I throttle back to an idle & put the clutch to the floor quickly. Regardless how they are adjusted, they do not like cold weather. Having said all this, I have 4 CASE tractors with the RPS-34. The oldest is a '71 870, The Power Shift has never been touched. Had to overhaul the P-S on my 4690 cause I had a kid using it. Coming down the road wide-open, with a string of tools behind it, he pulled the P-Shift lever back & it sheared the splines off a shaft. This was the only repair to any of my Power-Shift units.

this doun shifting problem is common. my brother has a 2290 and he did the same thing down shifting while hauling silage. he stripped the splines on the input shaft. the manual sayes that you should not use the shift to slow down .
