My 66 model 930 6 speed has some leaks it leaks through the gear shift shaft and also on the right side where a shaft comes through the trans case would 80-90 or 84-90 gear oil be ok to put into it? I imagine it would slow the leaking down and also lubricate it well when useing it for discing and plowing in the hot summer. Would this work ok?? Thanks, R Wyler

That is alot of hours though that heavy oil shoukd last a very long time in something like that. Those old Case chain drives run indefinatley and never wear out. GRIN.

Thanks John I'll do just that. Is there any way to check the oil level in these 6 speeds?? I know on my other 6 speed 930 that little pipe plug on the rear where the pto hyd houseing bolts on is I can remove it and nothing comes out and that is after filling it to 15 gallons and 1 quart like that manual says. Do you have any advice on this? Thanks again. R Wyler

Hey R. Wyler: I don't even measure anymore, I just fill till the oil comes up to the plug hole.

Don't these use the gear oil for the hydraulics? I can't remember. If it does, stick with the hy-trans.

On these chain drive tractors the rans/rearend is a seperate compartment from the hyd. Though if they were in the same compartment it would indeed not be possible to use heavy oil in it. Thanks for the followup. R Wyler

If it's a chain drive it should be no problem to use heavy oil. The old L used 140 weight. Didn't shift too well in our Sask cold, but nobody used a tractor much in the winter.

Yes since the old L and LAs used it the 930 6 speeds should be fine with it. I think that is what I should do. Thanks. R Wyler
