I just got an SC (1943) for pulling in an old timer (stone stock)tractor pull club. Things didn't go so well for me. Seemed like there was no reserve at the far end of the track and it fell on it's beak quickly. Is this normal for this tractor or just a symptom of sitting too long and needing to be tuned? Also, can I get this down to 3700 lb with disk wheels? thanks

You could put up to 3-11/16" button top pistons in it, if you could find them. You could put a high compression head on it. You still wouldn't get much over 30 hp out of it. I have 5 Case SC's, but if I ever decide to start pulling in competition, I'm going to go get a Case DC. The SC has around 170 cu. inches and DC has around 260 cu. inches with a long stroke engine without all that much weight gain.

I may get some disagreement with other folks on the board but the SC is one tractor I wouldn't pull with. They weigh too much for the hp. Not sure now without checking but I believe the hp was uped on the SC later than 43. Ours had more hp than the 43. 46, 48, 49, two of these and two 50's. Many hours on one but with much work they don't have the hp for the weight.

No disagreement with me. I grew up on a '41 and have a '44 now. SCs have a very heavy rear end for a 20 HP tractor. 1st gear is to slow to pull and 2nd won't have enough guts - unless you have worn rear tires that will slip just enough to not stall in 2nd. Dad always claimed he did pretty well pulling his until he put new tires on it.
