G148, G148B, G159 & G159B. Pre 1960 148 had different bolt pattern at torque tube? 159 wasn"t made yet? What does the "B" represent (filter location)? The later model blocks had the oil filter spin directly on the block. There are three versions of 148 and two 159 versions?
Would somebody explain what I"m missing?
Thanks, Dennis.....

Dennis,
The B engines had the thrust bearing made as part of a main bearing, the older engines used a separate thrust washer to control crankshaft thrust, so the bottom of the block was machined different and the crankshafts were different. I also believe all B engines had 3 bolt starters. There were two different bolt patterns for the torque tubes on the early 148 powered tractors(dry clutch and Cas O Matic) both had 2 bolt starters. That would account for three differing 148 engines 2 old versions, one B version. I don't know if there were two versions of the 159 but if the 530 was available with both a dry clutch as well as the Caseomatic and the torquetubes had different bolt patterns like the early tractors that would account for 2 - 159" blocks. I think some of the early B engines had the old style oil filter adapter, but not 100% positive on that.
Hope this helps
Terrance

Terrance,
I never knew early 148 blocks for dry clutch and Case-O-Matic are different. Wow!
I"m sure all 159 blocks have the starter flange which would also be the 3-bolt starter.
I have both 159 blocks, I"m sure the only difference is the oil filter location. They will work with dry clutch or case-O-matic on 530.
All 159"s are most similar to 148B.
I"m sure 148B engines work with dry or Case-O-Matic drives on 430.
Thanks for the info, Dennis.....
