A while back I had asked the group about a '89 580K (4x4 - ehoe - diesel - cab/heat - good rubber - local owned - decent machine) backhoe i was thinking of buying. In decent shape, yes...

But it had a mysterious problem. Seemed to run cool(normal) @ idle or in backhoe use. But seemed to run really hot, and almost overheat while doing driving/loader intensive work. The gent who owned it had a new head, new radiator, new torque converter installed trying to fix it to no success. I thought about it, took the risk, bought it for $10k.

I took off the radiator cap, started and loaded the motor (in drive with brakes on) and watched it get hot. Got real real hot, but no "good flow" through the radiator. Indicated to me water pump or t-stat. Replaced the t-stat, flushed the cooling system, and examined the pump. Put it back together, drive it up hill for 20 mins (on a mountain road)... All is good. No rise above normal. This would usually had made the coolant temp really close to the red area.

This thing seems to have a rough, inconsistant idle. Seems to pulse. Any ideas. No Turbo on this one. Good air filter. Add a little rpm, she Purrs
Please advise, and Thanks in advance
Pete
