I bet I am going to end up being really embarrassed when I get the answer, but I couldn't see a dip stick. I did notice a plug near the top of the pan. Surely Case didn't expect the farmer to check his oil by opening that plug?

Goto get myself a manual.
Dave

I am a novice with Case tractors, but on many tractors of that vintage the farmer was required to remove an oil plug and look for a drip of oil to determine the level. I have a Case DO tractor and there are 3 oil plugs on the side of the pan. One was a drain plug, one is a low level, and one is the full level. It is a fairly fool proof method and it is nearly impossible to overfill.
