We have a ford major tractor. It had old tires on it when we bought it about 10 years ago. It is a 1957 model. One of the rear tires blew up and there was a gray powder inside it. Can anyone tell me what the gray powder is? We have talked to the tire store personnel and no one has a clue? We'd like to know what to do with it. Thanks for your help. Ann

Years ago they used put what was called powdered lead in tires for ballast, I can remember hearing them talk about when I was about 8 or 9 years old I'm now 52 so that was awhile ago It was supposed to be heavier than calcium chloride and you didn't have the corrosion problem, but I imagine it was alot harder to pump into the tire so they dicontinued its use. I guess the best thing would be to gather as much of it as possible and dipose of it in a proper manner for the enviroments sake.
