3 point/ box blade question...

Even though I grew up on a farm, I'm new to this tractor stuff (moved to town in 2nd grade). I've got the wife's gramps '52 SC running like a champ but haven't worked it yet. We have a long dirt road that I thought a box blade might work well on. My duel hydraulic setup needs to be flushed and it needs a line but should work fine. My question is about the blade. Wouldn't I want down pressure and not just float? If you put the scarifiers down I would think you would need a lot of weight in float or some pressure with a two way cylinder to get the job done. Do you ever have down pressure with an Eagle Hitch setup?.. any comments? Thanks, C.

I have never used a "box blade" but, a stright blade will cut very well except when extremely dry if adjusted correctly.

Do you add weight or does it cut without weight. What do you adjust? A box blade is just a blade with boxed-in ends so the material stays in front of the blade and continues to spread. I've never used one but always see them for sale.

I have added weight, we were flatting an area for a swimming pool. The front gets light in a hurry.
I adjust the third link longer to get more bit.
Rotating the blade and lowering the point will almost get it to cut like a plow, I assume that the box on the blade would prevent this.

It would be better to add weight to the blade. You can add or subtract as needed.

YOU CAN MAKE EAGLE HITCH WITH DOWN PRESSURE BY HOOKING BOTH HHOSES TO THE CYLINDER BUT NOT GOOD IDEA AS THE LIFT RODS CANT TAKE MUCH DOWN PRESSURE, IF YOU DO BE CAREFUL OR YOU WILL BEND THEM AND THEY WILL BREAK TOM
