580CK reverse clutch slipping

My 580 CK (1970) has a problem with the reverse clutch. It works fine for about 5 or 10 minutes but then loses power, gradually but quickly. For a little while it will still work when shifting repeatedly between forward and reverse but eventually loses power completely. Clutch pressure (on the pressure gage) drops to almost nothing. Can Anybody tell me what could be wrong and if there is a way this could be fixed, hopefully without having to split this beast.
Thanks in advance

Assuming the oil level is OK the first thing I'd check is the filter and if it's OK then the screen at the bottom of the pump pickup tube may be plugged with worn clutch plate material. Not easy to remove and clean but if it does have clutch plate friction material embedded then it's 'split' time to rebuild the powere shuttle and clean everything inside.

Thanks Jim. I changed the filter and oil, problem remains the same. What"s involved in getting access to the screen at bottom of pickup tube? If the problem is there, wouldn"t this also affect the forward clutch pressure?
Thanks for sharing your expertise.

The pump pickup tube & screen is attached to the pump. The pump is mounted to the underside of the touque tube housing front cover plate. That's the one which is under the fuel tank with all the hydrulic valving attached to the topside. Access is tough ... fuel tank, steering column and lots of plumbing is in the way.
I'd suspect the reverse clutch is the one most worn therefore slips when the oil is warm and the pressure is lower. The reverse clutch is the forwardmost one within the shuttle clutch assembly. Inspection of the amount of wear may be judged by removing the rear cover plate (the one behind the steering column) and comparing the two clutch packs total thickness. The engine can be running (at idle only) to monitor the engage/disengage smoothness of the clutches. R&R requires the dreaded "Split".
Good Luck.
