Case VAC???

I recently bought at aution what I thought was/is a VAC. Looks like one, is in real good condition, but the only thing that I can find that looks like a serial # doesn't match the number patterns that I read about here. I found this # on right side of engine, just below head & in front of bell housing: VAB 124-15688. Couldn't find anything stamped on engine left side near bell housing as written in another note here (unless left is to one facing the tractor from in front and unlike auto conventions). Does anyone know what I have or where the real number may be? Once I identify my new jewel, I then will want to find shop manuals and parts lists. Any suggestions?

VA/VAC engines have a number on the left side. VT 328. It's under the water drain in the block down by the oilpan. Thats the cast number. They had three gauges, oil pressure, ammeter and water temp, from left to right. They also have three knobs and a switch under the gauges. Theres a choke, light switch, start button and ignition switch, also from left to right respectfully. VA tractors have a wide front end. VAC tractors have either a tricycle front end or an adjustable wide front end. Also, these are gasoline tractors. Other than that it would be hard to tell with out looking. Good luck.

Bob, thanks so much. My engine has VT 149 cast into it. What could that mean?

The real number is supposed to be on a metal tag that is riveted to the dash but people seem to think that they are supposed to take them off, probably the same people that take the owners manual out of their car before they trade it in of sell it. They will never need it but don't think anyone else should have it either.

Thanks, Jerrie. I think that I have bought cars from them also. Do you have any recommendations on source for manuals?

If you have antique shows nearby you can go and check through the tables of manuals that are usually there or maybe ask one of the vendors if he could keep an eye out for one and get in touch with you if he finds one, other than that I don't know that is where I picked up mine for my tractor.
