Where is the S/N plate located on LA"s? Also if it is missing, is it stamped on the engine in the same place as DC"s?

I"m going to look at a "40"s LA and LAE, they have been sitting inside for 30 years, engines are supposed to be loose. The tractor is an all-fuel. If they are in decent shape what on average would be a good deal for both of them? (I know the last question is kind of hard to answer)

Thanks,
Case1950

The LAE engine should have a serial number plate on the valve cover, or at least my DE engine did. Serial number for the LA should be on the same panel as the guages.

My '48 LA has the serial number on the dash near the gauges.

I have an LAE, and the serial number plate for it is riveted on the carb side on the radiator supprt, right next to the starter button.

The serial number should be stamped on the carb side of the engine, on the flange where it mates to the transmission.

Thanks everybody, Found the S/N on both units. Tags were missing on both, but found them on the engine flange. The LA was a little to ruff for me to drag home, wasn"t in bad shape, just to much of a project for me.

Thanks again,

If you have decided not to get the LA, could you tell us where it is located? Thanks.
