What is the correct rear wheel size for a 1937 Case L? I have seen both 28" and 30" rims.

The 28" cast wheels were the first rubber tire wheels for the L. These came out in 1935. There was a later 28 that had a steel rim riveted to a cast hub. I believe the actual introduction of the 30" wheels is probably as hard to pin down as the first time a Flambeau Red tractor left Racine. People have Ls and Cs that appear to have been Flambeau since new, but I have not seen actual data to indicate when these changes happened.

Robert,

You going to make it to Temple this year? I'll be down there with Rust Runner, the L and the C.

Also, have you been able to see if you had any extra rear steel hubs for the old L?

I'm in the process of taking the lugs off the old L to bolt tractor tread on the rims to make it more livable, but still want to try to get a set of rubber to go on it.

Paul,
I don't plan that far ahead, would like to go but no idea at this time. The rear wheels have kicked my tail worse than anything I have tried in a long time. I am 50% success in getting the steel rears off. As it worked out, that is one wheel on each tractor. I have peg legged tractors sitting there looking at me. I do OK on getting the cast hubs off, but the steels have had their way with me so far.

Just saw that I contradicted you on the Cranky L post. I can't flood mine with the crank, often have to help them with the choke.

I"m restoring a 1930 L Case, any idea where I can find a set of good front steel wheels and intake-exhaust manifold with the pre-heater box for a Zenith carb. Also need a gas tank double compartment, and a magneto must be a Robert Bosch. Need help with this. Thanks

Yeah, the contradiction is no surprise. These old machines all have a mind of their own and its a matter of trial and error to find out what each one likes best. My C is the exact opposite of the old L. It likes a LOT of fuel. It starts easiest when you turn it upside down and pour the intake full of gas.

As if you didn't have enough old iron for me to be jealous of already.

Hey thats great! Can't wait to see it. Hear that Schotte? It might be road trip time again.

What kinda condition is it in? I know of a restored X-Motor for sale in Central Tx might it be the same one?

It is almost complete, but pistons and sleeves are trashed. Sat under an oak tree with the valve cover off for x years. Looks very cool in the shed with the big CASE on the radiator pointing out.

It probably also depends upon what sorts of wheels you have. My 1930 L has "cut-ofs", and they are 28" in the rear, but with a wide tire. There were wheels made for pneumatic tires after 1934, but I've never seen one, and I don't know what size they were.

I have 28" rims on my '34 "L". According to my parts book, 30" wheels didn't appear until the arrival of the "LA"
