A friend of mine has an SC with a Case magneto that appears to have a weak coil. After running for a while, it will just die. If you let it set for a few minutes, it will fire right back up and run fine, until it does it again. It's gets worse the hotter the weather. I told him it sounds like the coil breaking down to me. I was wondering if there were any Wico or Fairbanks-Morse magnetos used on the SC; and, if so, were they interchangeable with each other, and where a person might find one (price is an object for this guy!). The serial # is: SC8038224. I was also wondering if anyone could tell me what year this tractor was made. Thanks!

IH mags and distributers will work. The horizontal ones are a little tight, if it is equipped with an oil filter, but they will work. So will the vertical Delco distributors off some AC tractors. John Saeli sells rebuilt Case mags with a trade in. Post a message for him if you are interested.

Due to the difficulty in finding parts for Case mags, we've converted several SC's & DC's to battery ignition. We've found that the right-angle Delco from Allis Chalmers (they were also used as "after-market" on lots of IH products) work well, as they give you adequate room between the back of the distributor & the oil filter. If I remember right, you have to reverse the direction of the wiring, as they run "backwards" as compared to the mag. Parts are available @ C-IH dealers & auto shops. We've also used IH mags on Cases-they'll bolt right up as well, but are not as hot as Case Mags. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
