I don't know what a stepdown starter is, but I have a starter off a 46 DC that works.

I have parts of one. I think the small gear is missing. My local electrical parts rebuilder has one that he rebuilt for someones M about 4 years ago and they have not been back to claim it. If I made him an offer I think it could be bought. He is tired of it sitting on the shelf. My guess is that if you change the fields and the drive it could be reversed. Need it for that stroker?

5020 jd pistons in a DC will make it hard to crank wont it Tom. LOL Is it possble to use an LA starter??? I assume you are using 12 volts??? Is your starter burnt up? If you need one I will send you one as you sure have done me a favor or two. Wilson

If you find one let us know. I am getting tired of cranking my DC when it is cold to start.
