Hi,

I'm a new comer to the site and have found it very interesting so far. I thought I would ask a silly question but it has me confused.

I bought a (new) tractor not to long ago the decal on the hood says 900 but I have heard discussion of a 900B. What is the difference in the 2? I farm about 400 acres in eastern oklahoma and the case is a beast for pulling in the rocks and hills. The 900 is diesel and has a hand clutch, which is difficult to get used to on the steep terrane. What kind of HP can you get out of one of these stock?

Thanks for the great website and information,
Clay

The 900 should make between70-80 hp stock, were rated just over 70 hp.The later ones had a inline German Bosch fuel pump, while the first ones had a rotary American Bosch. After you get used to it the hand clutch is as easy to use as a foot clutch.

Thanks for the advise, guys like you make this site great.

Mine has an inline fuel pump. The previous owner said it had been rebuilt and I think it is turning a little more HP than stock. At least it feels a little stouter than the 80HP Ford I got. But I have never had it tested to see exactly what it can make.

I like the rear mount style of this tractor. And yes the hand clutch is something to get used to. I remember the first time I dropped my 5 bottom turn plow in the ground. It bit real hard and reared the front tires up almost two feet. I soon figured out you have to be careful how deep you set the plow. With enough weight on the front the 900 will bellow out and rip ground like a monster.

Well thanks for the help.

Clay

The 900 was built in 1957 as a successor to the 500/600 and was done in the new styling, IE the square look hood with the lights in the hood. This would be the style you have. The "B" designation was added to all this style tractors to distinguish them from the earlier 300, 400,500, 600 models produced in the mid fifties. Serial numbers for 57 were 8100001 thru 8108600. 58 was 8120001 thru 8131350. 59 was 8140001 thru 8154999. The model was changed to 930 in 1960. Not sure about hp but someone should know. Guess around 75.
