I have a CK680 backhoe with a gas engine in it. The engine is tired and using a lot of oil. I am debating between rebuilding the gas engine and converting it to a diesel engine. Does anyone know if a diesel tractor engine (like a 730 Case) will fit in it? Im asking because I know where I can get a tractor engine. Thanks in advance.

A 267 CID (730) diesel would be a poor choice. It's the old power cell motor with 52 horsepower. Rather, find a 336 CID (870) diesel with direct injection with nearly 80 horsepower. There's a world of difference in economy and performance.

Will the 336 CID engine will bolt in where the 4 cyl gasser is coming out or will I need to make some modifications? I like the idea of more hp and better economy, but am concerned about how difficult it will be to convert. Thanks!
