Case 224 Hydraulic Oil Recommendation

I have an old Case 224 garden tractor, but no manuals. I have the engine (Kohler) running now, but the tractor needs hydraulic oil. What kind of oil is recommended?

20-W40 OR 10W40 JUST TODAY I CHECKED IT OUT .IT SAID DO NOT USE HYDRAULIC OIL.

Is there any way to tell, by looking at it, if the oil in the reservoir now is 10w40 or if it is hydraulic oil.... and... if it is hydraulic oil, will it hurt to mix or should I try to drain all the old oil out?

(BYW, it does seem to run with whatever oil is in the system, but the reservoir is nearly empty.)
