Need longer Top link for 300?

Bought a bush hog for my Case 300 (311). It is a jd 205 rotary cutter. The top link for the 300 seems to short to get the back end of mower level with the front. I looked at some aftermarket top links, but with the way the link attacheds to the back of the tractor, it will not fit as it will be to big to fit into the pin holding it in place.

Any suggestions? Anyone else had this problem and found easy solution?

OK, I know this is a stupid question, but do you connect the chain from the tractor to the mowers top link directly, or do you connect the chain to the tractors top link, and then to the mower?

Thanks

I think the guys are connecting the chain from the mower top link directly to the tractor.

My 6 ft. Bush Hog has rear wheel and a chain. Lets it float over things. Yes, 300 Case. Please don't mess up the top link if it is a Case with eagle mark. They sell too good on E-bay.

Yes, the top link is a little short. I bought a generic one at the local farm store. If the top link fits too loose, you could make a bushing to slide on the pin out of steel pipe. A little loose won't hurt anything. I had to also flip one of the pins around to the inside on the bush hog to get the correct pin spacing to hook the arms up.

Does this mower not have a tail wheel? I use mine with a piece of chain instead of a top link. That way when you hit a golpher mound it will give instaed of bending something. Use the tail wheel to adjust highth and raise or lower the 3 pt arms to level it.

If you do need to use a top like take a Cat 1 top link, cut the eye hole off one end, then weld on a piece of pipe big enough for the Case pin to fit through. Check and see what that Case top link is worth before you cut it.

Thanks,

Yes the mower has a tail wheel, and the chain is a great idea. Thanks for the help and ideas.

That is exactly what I will do.

What I did for my 400b is cut the toplink and weld in about 5 inches of similar size rod. Works fine! If you don't want to mess up the original, then go to Farm & Fleet and buy a $28.00 CAT#1 TOP LINK.
