I have an chance to purchase a VAC, wondering will it have enough lift power on the 3 point to lift a 5-6 foot woods mower. Also does the higher level of the pto shaft cause clattering of the pto knuckles when lowered? Also is this a powerful enough tractor for finishing mowing ?

Another advantage of the PTO overrun clutch is that it allows you to put the tractor in gear with the implement PTO shaft still turning. It's a good $70 investment.

The overuning clutch would be best but you can disengage the pto under load.
Some weight up front would help keep front tires on ground.

Lars:

I have a newly overhauled VAC, and it amezes me with its power. I also have a JD 855 with a 6' belly mower. Both are rated at around 25 hp, and the 855 handles the grass just fine. The only problem I could see you having is that the VAC does not have live power take off and with only 4 speeds, you might have to shift down farther than you would like. You'll want to install an over running pto clutch so that the momentum of the turning mower doesn't continue to push the tractor forward when you depress the clutch.

Also, nothing sucks more power from a finish mower than dull blades. Sharp blades is the cheapest horsepower gain you can buy!

A VAC will lift your mower. We used to move big round bales with a VAC that were so heavy the front end would be off the ground (with weights).

You will have a lot more HP than that air cooled crap they sell at Sears, or Lowes, or Home Depo.
