I own a 1970 580CK front end loader/backhoe and I'm pretty sure the main hydraulic pump is going out. Testing the tractor with a 3000 psi gauge, as the manual instructs, I could only achieve 1100 psi at full governed speed. The reaction of the hydraulics in general seems to be slow, and when I changed the filter I found metal shavings which looked as though they could be pieces of the pump vanes. When I "bottom out" any of the cylinders, the relief valve cannot be heard squealing as it opens. Here are my questions: 1. Is removing the pump as simple as it looks, or is it a real chore? 2. Is this style pump rebuildable or is it replaced as an assembly? 3. What should I expect to pay for a new pump or the parts to overhaul it? Many thanks for your help & advice.

Yes, you need a new hydraulic pump! The hydraulic pump coupler will come off easily (if stuck) by using an air hammer. Otherwise, you'll be prying and beating on it for an hour among numerous curse words.

Easy to take off except if your shaft and coupler are seized in rust. but just go to your Case dealer and buy a reman pump part number DR41390 for about 250.00 and maybe need the coupler and shaft you will see when you take it off but unless it was grease every 500 hours most likely the spline are worn.
