Well I was finally was able to remove the serial tag on Case tractor it was totaly painted over in orange paint I was able to get enough off to see that I have Vac 14 not just a Vac serial #0000755 I think the last 0 before 755 seems to be messed up alittle. Anybody know what I could use to remove to paint? And not damage the serial tag print the black seems to be alittle faded also.

Sometimes the overpainting isn't strongly adhered to the tag, and masking tape will lift it. I've seen that work; put the tape on and let it sit a couple of days, and then peel it off. If you're not sure of the outcome, you might try just one strip along the edge, first.

Maybe it was the tape that removed the overpaint, or maybe it was the reducer bleeding through from the paint that I sprayed over the mask. Just a thought.

I don't know about the paint thing. Look at the stamped numbers from the back side. Seems like that first zero should be a 6.

Joe should the tag be stamped? I do not think mine is stamped I am at work now so I will have to look at the tag closer tomorrow.

Yeah, sometimes if the numbers are stamped deep enough you can make it out by the impression on the back. It will save your butt trying to find all the digits in a number on a scarred up lip seal sometimes. Just a thought. Good luck.

Well Joe now I think my serial number is 6000755 on my Vac 14 tractor. The best I can tell my numbers were not stamped but some how in cased in black background and the 0 before the 7 I am not totaly sure about. Which there was away to see if this serial number is a good one or not.

Ok, Click on the link. The first set of serial nrs is for all letter series tractors. Scroll down to VA.

Assuming that the information at the link is correct:

Serial nr 600x755

1. A confirmed 3rd digit "0" would be model year 1953. It would also indicate that the numbering system changed sometime during the model year 1953. Does that seem likely? I don't have a clue.

2. A 3rd digit 0 or 1 along with the last 3 digits 755 can be either '53 or '54 depending on whether the 4th digit is a 0 or a 1.

3. A 3rd digit 2 would confirm model year 1954.

And so on. Now I am really confused, is that reasoning right above?

It seems to me that the digits 3 & 8 in starting serial nr for 1954 are more likely to look like a zero than a 1 or 2.

So your problem is solved. You have a 1955, serial nr 6038775 (just kidding).

I guess you just have to work toward confirming the 3rd & 4th digits.

I think that I would take DCTOM's advice and contact Rich Tworek.
