I have never owned a 930 but I have always wanted one to roll hay. I have found one that I am very close to buying. I just reviewed the discussions about 930's on this board and seems nobody has anything bad to say about them. There are discriptions like, "bullitproof", Powerful old beast", "a real workhorse", "dependable", and other good things said about them. One thing some owners did bag on was the brakes and power steering but brakes don't seem to be a real problem if they are maintained, and they are fairly accessable and easy to work on. One thing no one discussed was a preference of an 8 speed dual range over the early 6 speeds with chain drive. I always had my mind set for an 8 speed but some people tell me the hand clutch on the 6 speed is much better for rolling hay. Also some say the whole drive train and transmission is more bullitproof in the 6 speed. I am beginning to think the 6 speed, hand clutch is not a dinosaur afterall, and in fact may be my preference. Especially the 6- speed comfort King. What do some of you 930 owners and former owners think? Thanks

Be VERY VERY careful if you plan on round baling with a 6 speed. Check out the hydraulics out very carefully! The 8 speed has a much better hydraulic system and they cost 25% as much to work on them. I know a guy that had to put 80 w 90 in the hydraulic system of a 6 speed to open the gate on his baler. LOL DK

Nothing wrong with either transmission, I've got both here, a '63 930 CK LP 6 speed, a '65 930 gas row crop 8 speed, a '67 930 western special diesel 8 speed & a '62 830 Case o matic. My son has heard of someone having a 930 6 speed that they put a 504 engine in it for tractor pulling, I guess it is cranking out around 240 hp & the 6 speed has only broke one final drive chain, the chain is easier to replace than any gear in it.

I had an old 930 six speed and I don't think (could be wrong)they ever put that transmission/rearend in a "Comfort King". I mean you are talking 1920's design in that old beast, same as the "L", but that does make them dependable. Did you ever drive one of them? The comfort king is a lot easier to handle. The old 930's were about as graceful as an elephant in a china shop, don't get me wong, they were dependable old "sluggers" but, handy or manuverable? No way!

They made six speed comfort kings through 1966

JRT 930 6 SPEEDS Are Hard To Find They Are Collectors Item. Differential Is Better Than 8 Speed. 8 Speed Is Still A Good Tractor, If You DON"T Want 6 Speed Please Let Me Know. Brent
