Just bought a DC. It's an incredible machine. I have a number of questions.

1. Is this a good antique tractor pulling machine or should I just admire its beauty and not torture it?

2. What publisher prints the best service and parts manuals to own for this machine?

3. This baby is built in Racine, serial number:
4403096. Positive or negative ground?

4. Are the radiators troublesome in these tractors or do they leak from the top until they reach a certain level.

5. Is there a good way to repair the casting in the front where the starting crank goes through? The right side, facing the front of the tractor, is broken out.

6. Can this machine really weigh 4775 pounds?

7. Is there a good place to go on the web besides here to glean info before the manuals come in?

This machine is not an "epoxy special." Someone took a lot of time to attempt to restore this machine to original. It starts and runs good and is near show quality. I paid 1500 bucks at auction. I consider it money well spent. My son is real close to starting to call it his.

As far as the manuals... Keep trying ebay or your local tractor shows/swaps and you can find the originals. Watch your prices though!!! I believe all of the Racine tractors are Negative ground, Rock Island positive ground.

very good, tough tractor, Torture it, they apparently like it. I have had mine weighed in a 8000lbs and spins out pulling. I have pulled it down on a very good track and it sounded like(don't shoot) a john deere, lugged very well. 4775 is reasonable weight. I know that plugs to check oil is on side with dist. When you change engine oil be sure to drain clutch. add extra quart in engine at it is oiled all together. Oh yeah, don't park with clutch in, it will cause to stick and grab while idling.

Forgot this question:

My son and I looked for the oil plugs on the side of the oil pan to check the oil level. The only thing we see on the oil pan is two covers on each side with four bolts in each. No pipe plugs.

One side of the pan also has two metal shafts about 1/2 inch diameter with drilled holes with what looks like special pins inserted through the holes. These shafts are not higher and lower on the pan but on the same plain or side by side.

How do we check the oil?

On all the SC's and DC's that we owned had the two plugs to check the oil. Lower one should always have the oil coming out or its low. The top one is for overfuill if it streams out. We always let it trickle out the top and the only problem we ever had was when Dad used the old C for several days without checking it. If you have the two someone must have changed something around. Is it possible to post a picture?

Can't post a picture. There is two plates on each side of the oil pan. These plates are six sided and have four bolts in each. They look OEM. They look like access plates to possibly clean out the oil sump which is heavy cast.

Do you have a maintenance manual scan?

The plates are hand holes to get at the bottom end of the engine without taking it out. Never seen anyone work on an engine that way but it can be done. The check plugs shoud be on the oil pan with the top one about an inch higher than the other one.

The DC is a very good tractor. This is an excellant place to ask your questions. Many knowlegable guy/gals here to help you with questions. DCTom pulls a DC with good results as many other guys also do. I'm sure many will chime in. 4775 is a reasonable weight if you haven't done any thing with it. The ones we farmed with were heavier as we had fluid in the tires and weights on the wheels. Others will weigh in with answers to your other questions. Enjoy the tractor.
