Howdy Guys,

I had to have a piece of steel removed from my eyeball this afternoon- so take it from me and please wear your safety goggles.

I was wearing mine, but they were an ill fitting pair that kept slipping off my face. Looks like they slipped enough to let something into my right eye.

I could see something stuck in there... but I didn't think it was steel- as I was drafting on Wednesday with my face too close to the drafting table. I was pressing too hard while lettering, and the lead in my lead holder shattered and the pieces hit me in the eye and the cheek. Never thought I would need goggles in an OFFICE! (grin)

That's why I thought the bit stuck in my eye was a piece of graphite- but the doctor told me today that he could see rust around the piece and it was steel. This means it came from Tuesday night when I was grinding metal with a rotary tool. I never even felt it go in at the time, and it didn't start to hurt me until 24 hours later- and then it almost brought me to my knees when I was driving home in the bright sunlight.

I'm sure glad it's out of there now. SAFETY FIRST!

(being thankful)

Safety goggles are good but I like a face shield, it covers pretty much everything from ear to ear, forehead to my 2nd chin ;))

I have worn glasses since I was eight years old and I have always been amazed at all the junk that hits my glasses instead of my eyes. Be careful with your eyes and make that they do not get infected. Hope all is well.

Hey Mike: Glad to hear everything is OK. 3 weeks ago @ the shop, the valve Spring Compresser let loose and the valve cap hit me in the right eye completely shattering the glass lens in my glasses. Luckily nothing entered my eye. It was quite a smack.
