What is the difference? Is the VAC just the tricycle version of the VA? Is the torque tube case interchangable? I just got a 1947? VAC with a hydralic lift. The area around the bolt hole where the lift rocker attaches to the torque tube case is cracked. I know where there is a pile of VA parts five hours from here. But I'd like to know if the parts are interchangeable before I make the trip.

The VA SERIES included the 'VA' which was very similar to the VAI and VAO configurations (see chart on the link below) with the main differences being lighting and muffler layout. A VAC can be a single, narrow or wide front, both adjustable and non-adj. The torque tubes for the high pressure system (yours) are the same throughout the line. The torque tubes for later tractors fitted with the low-pressure system and live, engine-mounted pump interchange also, but you would need to add the live pump, lines, and a 3-point hitch with control valve (the late Eagle hitch has the control valve attached). With a bit of 'Baja-engineering' you can add the functionality of the live pump at a later date, however, wthout changing torque tubes. The mid-mount implement yoke will not fit the late torque-tube but if you go that route you will probably be up-grading to a 3-point as outlined above anyway. Find your torque-tube casting number and compare with the one you are looking to buy to be absolutely certain of interchangeability.

Thanks MJ, that was exactly what I needed. It also cleared up some other questions. This is my first Case (I have an AC WC and Oliver 70). This VAC has had some after market work - it has the high pressure pump and a low pressure pump mounted to the end of the shaft. The high pressure pump is disabled. It has a three point hitch (but not an eagle hitch) and it is operated by the original mid-mount implement yoke. And now I know that the home made looking piece of wood over the spark plugs is supposed to be there (although I can't imagine why). Thanks again for the help from you Case guys. It sure helps to talk to the experts.

Martin- I've only seen one and I'm thinking that it started life as a single or narrow front and someone changed it over to a non-adj. wf BUT right after WW2 Case was sticking tractors together any which way they could because of the demand. This could have been done by an owner or a delaer with ease. The only sticking point is that the steering pitman arm moves opposite to a sf, nf or adj. wf due to the linkage arrangement on the n. adj. However, it's a simple matter to reverse the direction if you are 'in the know' which most of the dealers probably were. It's a matter of removing the steering gear and turning over the worm and worm gear; then they operate in reverse. Did Case send them from the factory as VACs with the non-adj. wf? I don't know....maybe somebody will tell us. I've got a complete na, bolster and all and may convert my sf to it. But I've got a VAO which uses the same front end so maybe not! You can see some of these variants on the link below. Click an image to enlarge.
