I have a 46 VAI and it has that VT207 shifter plate...The diffrence is in the shifting pattern....The 207 is more like a highway pattern, and the 161 is 1st & 2nd are towards the top, which get the shifter out of the way when plowing, or discing...as those are the most used gears that a farmer will use...My VAI also has a "profit" bucket trip loader on it also...Good little tractor...Forth gear should be a road gear if it's a VAI. Another way uou can tell if it's a VAI is to look at the front axle, assuming it has a w/f...if it's i.75, or 2 inches thick, its a VAI. Hope this helps Art

VT207 is the shifter cover casting nr but it may help to narrow the year down. Usual VA shifter is VT161.

Case parts manual (quote) VT207* "*NOTE: Used on special mowing VAC tractors with adjustable front axle after serial #5570000". There is also something different in the shifter forks & rods but I just can't get my head around it now.

That should make it a '51 or later. Find the engine serial nr on the right rear of the engine. May be on/or near a vertical machined surface above the starter or further up just the cylinder head gasket. If the first two digits are 72, it is likely early 50's.

Lots of changes after '51, check photo gallery, match hood latch, front grille, steering shaft, side sheets, bolster implement opening, high/low profile, etc.

VT is a casting #. The model is a VA series like a VAC or VAI.
