530CK Bucket Float Position

Let me start with the fact that I am a complete tractor newbie. I am however, mechanically adept. Now, I keep hearing and reading about the float position on the loader bucket lift cylinders of my 530CK. Supposedly, you push forward on the lever until you overcome the detent. Problem is, I don't feel any detent on my lever and if I push the lever forward, the bucket goes down, lifting the tractor.

Can anyone tell me if this is just a problem with the adjustment of the detent or is there something more serious going on here? It seems like the float position is one of the keys to flattening out pads (for building sites) so it sure would be nice to get it working.

Thanks as always.

Know the problem, mine acts the same. I've looked at the parts diagram for the valve and fiddled with the detent that Dennis mentions but still no float. Just hasn't made it to the high priority rating on my list of things to do. Maybe this summer. I'll let you all know if I figure it out. George S.

Hi,Try to get the loader lever to latch in float position with the engine off. Its like a ball & socket latch. Possibly you just didn't push hard enough on the lever to engage the latch (detent). If you remove the cap at the front end of the spool, you'll see how it works. The ball end on the spool has to push into the socket to hold the lever in the float position.
I might add, you'll need to be a better operator than me to use the float option. I keep going to deep & making holes.
Its been a few years since I rebuilt my 530 control but thats how I remember it.
Best wishes, Dennis..... .
