VA Front Hydraulic Pump on VAIW

I've got a '45 VAIW that is slated to haul vintage aircraft around. One of the problems with vintage aircraft is that they sit around and do nothing for weeks at a time. I was thinking about getting a front hydraulic pump from a VA, mounting it on my VAIW and then using it to pre-oil piston-aircraft engines.

Would a VA hydraulic pump be OK pumping 60-weight motor oil (e.g. Aero-Shell)?

Thank you both for your posts. I was not aware of the lack of pressure relief. Since I do not want 1000psi in the bearings of an old aircraft, I think I will need to fudge something to keep the pressure low. Perhaps an exterior pressure relief back to the tank, and then a needle valve to regulate the flow to the aircraft engine.

On using the torque tube as a reservoir... I don't think the people who own the aircraft would like that idea. I think they would be wary of contamination and moisture. I think a separate oil tank and filter is in order. If I put the quick disconnects in the right places, I could filter everything that goes into the aircraft.

Anyway, thank you so much for your ideas and thoughts.

Yeah it will pump it ok, it is a standard spur gear pump. If you plan to use the factory cam gear driven pump, just need to be aware of some things. 1) Pump does not have an internal relief valve. 2) Pump will be running all the time the engine is so you will need to circulate some oil while using the tractor for other duties.

The factory recommended oil for your tractors torque tube is 90 wt but it is only for lubrication. Change it to 60 wt and with a couple quick disconnects, a couple of valves, some creative piping, you are in business.

Sounds like fun. Good luck.

Though Case never went that high in viscosity recommendations it would probably pump OK at higher ambient temperatures (aka 50 or so F). Or.....try it and see, report back! :-)
