Back in the early 60's when pulling used to be stock all the green guys started doing this for more power. They would start out and open the valve just enough to give it more snort. The folks in charge had to put a stop to it as usual one thing leads to another and it ain't stock very long. One funny incedent though, there used to be a separate class for gals and this guys wife was pulling his "stock" 4000 and she turned the valve all the way on and man, you should have seen the smoke and fire out the stack. Killed it about 25 feet. When the guy got it running again and did his first pull he blew the turbo and a few other things inside. Couldn't really feel sorry for him!

Does anyone know if all 830s used this same instrument cluster. The 830 is the only tractor to have this style. What is the name of this one? Thanks Jake

Hey Jake: That is an Autolite Cluster. Very similar to the S-W. They first appeared on the 1960 models.

My 830 has a different layout. The owner's manual doesn't even show it. Mine has 4 warning lights (filter, hot converter, oil, generator). The only gauges are temp, clutch pressure, and fuel. The bottom left corner is the speedometer, bottom right is the tach.

It is definately a Century LP regulator. Like dctom said, for more power.

Not sure what you are referring to John? The intake manifold is on the side we can't see (with the air cleaner), is it not? Are you referring to the silver/aluminum item on the picture side? If so I am betting it is the injection pump without most of its paint.

Hey DCTOM: It sure do look like a LP Reg. but I couldn't figure why it'd be on an 830D. Never heard of doing that for power. Wonder how it would work for Cold Weather Starting?

LP injected in a diesel is like putting NOS to a gas engine. Wakes it up fast.
