I have a couple of DC battery covers where the bolts are broken, bent beyond repair, or the threads are just shot. Does anyone know of a good way to repair these so that the cover looks close to original? Any help is appreciated.

I repaired mine similar to what John described. However, on mine I used a piece of strap iron similar to the original piece to attach the rod stock to the cover. It looks very nice but the purist would probably take issue with me.

Hi BasketCASE-

Allan Parsons e-mailed me awhile back- he was working to replace both hold downs on the DC battery cover that he is restoring.

Maybe he'll post some pics and share how he did his.

Here are the photos I sent him to show how the rods were originally mounted:

Hey BasketCASE: I've welded new rod-stock in place, and threaded the bottom like the old bolt. Hope this helps.
