I was wondering if anyone out there had ever built a 1030 puller. I have a good western 1030 without 3pt and a bad motor. The sheetmetal is in good shape. I am pretty sure that a 504 will bolt right up. I believe I want an engine either out of a 2870 or a 4490? These engines have the bigger valves and the bigger fuel pumps right? How light can I expect to get? Has anyone ever built a 1030? Thanks Jake

I went to a pull in Terra Haute 2 years ago, 8500 had 15 tractors 12 of witch were 930,1030.Most of them had 504 's. I was like case heaven to me. Also one from ohio came down to KY 9500 farm stock not the best looking 1030 but it sure did clean the clocks of all those 4020's .

If you are going to only pull with it do it. I have put 504s in front of eagle hitch rearends they take it fine. The engs are putting out from 350hp up pulling 6000 lbs up to 10000 lbs. If you were going out to the feild and going to pull all day long with alot of power i would worry. But you will be going 300 feet and you will be spinnig doing that so it will take it. Puller

I agree with Tom. The 1030 Trans/rearend had all it could handle with the 451, and sometimes the 451 was too much, resulting in trans/final drive failures. Sounds to me like the 504 would be askin for trouble, others will probably agree.

The engines you want are any late style 504s not a 2870 or 4890 the didnt run the case eng. The valves are the same on all 504s. Look for a 1570 2390 2590 2670 or such. Thad

You woin't hurt that 8 speed trans. I have a neighbor who was running a 500 with a 504 in it, wanted to have more gear selection, so we stripped a 1030. Used the sheet metal, trans, rear end out of the 1030, and a 504. Even if something does happen to the trans/rearend there are plenty of parts donors out there. Not sure what to tell ya on the weight, being the one here is stripped pertty well.

I'm not sure I'd recommend making a 1030 into a puller. They had a reputation for transmission and differential trouble and I'd be afraid you
might ruin it completely.
