1) Does anyone know of a particular alternator that might fit without having to fabricate a whole lot of bracktes and stuff?
2) The way the plug wires are connected from the magneto doesn't make any sense according to the firing order stamped on the block. Yet the tractor runs great. Any help there?

I put the 10SI Delco on mine using the instructions of off this site a little over three years ago. It will bolt up at the bottom, I took a piece of flat stock with the original top bracket and made a scissor (pivots in middle) to adjust the belt tension at the top. I used some flexible stock to fasten the back of the alternator to the engine block so that it would not cavitate. The pulley sizes don't exactly match so if you don't put the original on the alternater it will groove the belt a little. My belt is "groovy" but seems to not hurt anything. Watch that you do not put too much tension on the old water pump and be sure to wire it according to instructions with the protection diode. Failure to install the diode will cause the battery to drain through the alternator when the tractor is not running.

Thanks for that link, Todd. I'm only interested in charging the battery and even that is not a huge concern as I'll just put it on the charger as needed.
Nobody wants to tackle the firing order question, eh?

I would have given the firing order/magneto question a go... but you didn't supply much in the way of info, Les. How do you have it hooked up?

Remember that the rotor turns clockwise 1-3-4-2 while the impulse rotates counter-clockwise (or anti-clockwise for you Brits out there...)

I'll get a picture of it if I can. I do know that the wire from the #1 position runs to the #4 plug. Maybe Sky will get on here and tell you since he still has the thing in his possession. And he's the one who hooked it up the way it is.

I'm sure Mike Schotte will be glad to help you out on that alternator question!
