When I went to Tractor Supply to get a new battery for my 430 Diesel, it says that it takes 2 6-volt batteries, like a 730 / 830 diesel that my father has. I don't see how they would both fit in the hole! So I'm not sure which battery to get for this tractor. Any advice? Thanks!

The reason for two six volt batteries hooked in series (which equals 12 volts) is because the steering shaft goes through the middle of the battery tray on 430's. You could put one twelve volt battery on one side as long as you don't need to start it often in cold weather.

I had a 530, the book said the same thing. I ran a single 12v with no problem.

You must not live in a cold climate... I have a 530 diesel and a 1000CCA 12 volt wont get it below 20 degrees

My 430D has a autozone 12 volt battery of about 750cca. Any single 12 volt battery will work as long as it fits in the battery tray and that you can fasten it down.
