I have a 64 model 930 CK. The hour meter stopped at a little over 7300 hours and there is no telling how many more hours it has on had put on it since it broke as it was that way when I bought it. It has done a great deal of heavy pulling most likely thousands of hours of plowing as it has spent it's life here on OK wheat country. I had to have the drawbar re-built as the holes were nearly worn through also it has very heavy non factory rear wheel weights. I noticed this evening while heading to my garden to plow it a sort of knock or something that seems to be comeing from inside the trans somewhere. I really feel I should pull the rear hyd pto assembly off and inspect the chains for worn links and slack before one breaks or binds up and busts the case. How much of a chore is it to remove the rear houseing off of these with the PTO? Thanks guys for anyhelp e-mail me if you like I apprciate any advice. R Wyler

I have a '63 & I had the PTO housing off 3 years ago. The job isn't that bad, I was surprised the pto housing isn't that heavy, I thought I would have to put the tractor under a chain hoist & remove the LP tank too, but after removing the hyd. pump & pto shaft & clutch, I lifted the housing out by hand. I replaced the right drive chain since it had some flaking on the rollers. The big drive chain is a #160 chain & is around $32 per foot. I had to get into the rear end since I had no hydraulics at all, someone let the oil run low & wear out the pin that the driven sprocket that drives the pump runs on, the chain was so loose it tried to jump some teeth & it broke, the chain was in the bottom of the housing. It may not hurt to replace the hyd pump chain when you get in there, It is a #50 chain if I remember Mine has a noise in 3rd gear but none of the others. Let me know if you need anymore help when you get into it if you run into problems..... .Roger

Roger I have been thinking about this some more. Will that big gasket need to be replaced if I take the rear houseing off? I have been looking at my manula does that pin that holds the pto yok pivots on hard to get out? I guess the pump can come out after I take off the filter and un hook the chain. I will look at it today.

It should be replaced if it gets tore up when you remove the housing. The pto yoke shaft should come out easy, unhook the rod coming to the shaft, after you remove the filter & pump you can reach up & loosen 2 bolts that clamp the yoke to the shaft, there are 2 keys in the shaft & I think (?) the shaft will come out without removing the keys, I know the yoke has to come out before the pto shaft & clutch will come out the back. Don't worry about the chain for the pump, there is a coupling in there that lets the pump come off without messing with the chain, chain work comes after the pump is off. When you get the clutch pack out, there is a needle bearing in it, check it to see if it needs replaced, the needle bearing takes a special puller to get it out, after the clutch is out there is a snap ring on the shaft coming back from the engine that needs to come off before the housing will come off. When you remove the housing, the drum for the pto clutch will come with the housing. If you can, engage the pto clutch before removing it & the yoke, that may help on re-assembly, otherwise you will have to get each plate back into the drum one at a time, it can be done one at a time, it's just more time consuming. What manual do you have? repair or parts. I have a factory service manual as well as an I&T, plus a parts book..... .....Roger

Thanks for the help that answers what I am wondering about and I also didn't know the drum is attached to the houseing. I have both an orginal factory parts book and an original 930 CK round fender service manual neither are reproductions. I have another curiousity do the 930s with out the PTO have the clutch drum? My parts book does not list anything else that holds the hyd pump sprocktet. If so I might get me the plate and not put the PTO back in. I guess those rear bolts should be tourqued to 50ft pounds. That is what the crossshaft bearing carrier bolts are. I think I will order a new gasket before I remove it and go ahead and replace it. Thanks I really appriciate all the help. R Wyler

Thanks for the help Roger. Yes mine is a little noisier in 3rd gear that the rest of the gears I think. I have a manual so that will help alot. I think that gasket will need to be replaced as well and like you said replaceing the hyd pump chain is a good idea as well. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if I run into trouble. R Wyler
