I just got a VAI and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference is between a VAI and VAC. I know it has a wide front axle.
Thanks

I love my 1945 VAIW. It was rumored to have been used as an aircraft tug. Sure enough, under several layers of paint was a thick brushing of OD green on top of the Flambeau Red. There's history in these here tractors!

I always thought if I were to get any of the VA's for myself I would like to get a VAO or a VAI. Differences? Seems like it's a bit harder to kill one's self on the VAI compared to the narrow front VAC! I think my father's VAC has killed, or at least mamed, one person. I wonder if that's when it was refurbished. I seem to recall a tip-over story.

Someone told me that the VAI has a differnet clutch than a VAC. I think it was on the friction disk, but I can't be sure. The pressure plate may have been different as well.

I'm in the middle of re-building a VAI, & a VAC...The major diffrence are that the VAI has cast steel pistons, it's rpm;s are higher, the front axle will be larger than a wf VAC, it should have a "road gear" for 4th gear, it should have a horn, and a fire extinguiser....Because the rpm's are higher, you'll have to power back a little if you want to use the pto at the normal 540 rpm's....I'm sure there is more that I'm forgetting like it had an hour meter as optional equiptment amoung other things...VAI also came w/ a front end loader, or a rear/side mounted sickle bar mower as options. Good luck w/ your VAI...I realy love mine....
