I built my second wheel puller for it and it want budge. I have beat the crap out of it. Sprayed it with Pb Blaster and talked to it ugly.
No wonder people let these things leak.

I figured it would be a pain, especially after painting. In my case (which may have been unique) the puller only bent the pulley all to poo. Heat was a magic factor i'd say, and i did cool it quickly, even though it would weaken the steel a bit. At the same time though, our sc is never used for belt work, so I i'm not to concerned yet. As for running it loose, I reckon i'd probably tried it if i could keep gear oil in it, and anything of any value from in front of it ;)

Randy,
What tractor this pully on. I just take the nut off and forget it for a while and with use one day it decides to just jump right off. No beating, burnt paint or whatever. If you run the tractor much at all it will work off pretty quick. You might have to chase it a little ways but I bet you'll be able to find it. Good luck.

Isn't that the same way those 2-cylinder JD guys get their flywheels to come off. :) There is a story in the article archives about a JD flywheel bouncing over an automobile as the tractor was being driven down the road.

I think that would be worth trying but I had already drained the 11 gallons of gear oil.

Randy; Afraid you are finally going to have to face the fact that you will have to burn your new paint. On my "S", I put the puller on with just enough pressure to start bending it and while the pressure was on it, I heated it with acetylene torch. First time it didn't come off, so I cooled it quickly with a water hose. Second time I heated it, it came off with a BANG and landed about 5 feet from the tractor... Gene

Thanks Gene and Walt.
The paint has taken a beating anyway.
Five feet . . . good gravy! I make sure I stand clear.

Don't quench it with water or oil. This will harden the metal. Let it cool naturally. Slower process, but better for the metal.
