Starter quit on my 900 diesel Sunday. Has a bad armature and brushes. Repair shop says these parts are obsolete. The starter is an Auto Lite MCO 4004.
Checked the archives and found 2 possible replacements. One is Auto Lite WSM 4014A and the other is a Delco 1113006. Does anyone know for sure if these replacements will interchange with mine? The WSM 4004 has the direct acting solenoid and the WSM 4014A has the lever type solenoid. Would like to find a Delco starter for it. Thanks for your help... Gene

Starter from 500, 600, 700, 800,and probably a few others should work for you if you try looking for a used one.

I have a 700 diesel, but the starter for it is a lot smaller. i know the 500, 600 and 800 will interchange, but they are rare around here. Will the starter from a 830, 930 or 1030 interchang?.. Gene

Gene,
I show different number for the 930, but then all the others models show different numbers. I took a starter off my 500 and put on my 800, worked great, I thought the 800 and 700 should have the same starter?????. I was chasing part number changes for the early 930 but still come up short. I would think a starter rebuild place could come up with something. I might try to make a few calls tomorrow if time permits.

Caseman; I took all the numbers I have and talked to the repair shop and he called his rebuild supplier and came up with all assemblies obsolete. If I can find the Delco 1113006 starter, then he can get parts for it. Can get a rebuilt Auto Lite like the one I have for $478.00, but out of my budget range. Trying to deal on a Delco in Oklahoma now and hope that works out... Gene

Oops, made a mistake on the number for the direct solenoid. Should be mco 4004... Gene
