You will not believe this story...But...Here goes.
Drove to Beaumont Tx. Friday (800+ miles)where I bought a 1969 430 gas (pretty nice and complete and RAN). Brought it home to Illinois last night to where the temp dropped to 14 degrees. The motor and radiator had water---no antifreeze/coolant. Needless to say, the block and head are badly cracked. Here goes the old question.... What are my motor options? Please help..... I AM JUST AS SICK AS CAN BE.

I would pull the engine down to see how bad the cracks are,and where they are located. If the cracks are not to long you can weld them up. I have a Vac that cracked in front of the carb, it welded fine. You may need to replace the engine block, or buy a good used engine. I have a couple of options if you are interested.

Looks like a repair is not possible for the head. The block would be a longshot with a 10" crack. I am interested in options. What do you have? Where are you located?

Illini Case, where are you at in Illinois? I know there's a welding shop in Jacksonville, I believe Cat. sends or used to send a lot stuff there. They're supposed to be VERY good at cast iron welding. If you're interested I'll dig up that name for you.

I have 5" crack in the block of my SC, in the area of the manifold/carburetor. I've heard of a lead-type of sheet that could be formed/molded over the crack in the block. This stuff would basically patch/seal the crack. You'd drill and tap 1/4-20 holes above and below the crack to hold the lead sheet (or whatever it really is) in place. I would assume that there would also be some sealant involved, too.

I haven't done this to mine yet, mainly because I'd have to take the carburetor and manifold off to get to the crack. I can't afford to take the SC out of commission for that long of time, and the leak rate is fairly low. So, I just keep dumping antifreeze and oil in it until I can park it for a couple of months and tear it down to fix all the oil, fuel, water, lube, etc leaks...it keeps on running, though.

I don't know what this stuff is called, but perhaps someone else does?

Hey, do you know what engine you have in the 430?
It could be a 148 gas 159 gas or a 188 diesel.
I have a 148 gas, and a 188 gas engine.I have a 159 gas engine in my 600 case-o-matic. email your needs ,just click on my name.
Thanks
