Problem with my trial run test fit...

Hi All,

I didn't want to put the words "oil bath air cleaner" in the title- 'cause then nobody would look! (grin)

I bought rubber hoses today and test fit all my air cleaner parts together for the first time here at home. I'm trying to get it all right and do my painting before I head out to the farm and install stuff.

TEST FIT OF ALL AIR CLEANER PARTS:
third party image

Made a 2-1/4" long, 1-1/2" inside diameter hose for the air outlet, and a 3-1/2" long, 1-3/4" inside diameter hose for air inlet pipe.

I lined everything up as best I could to get the intake pipe straight (vertical.)

Now for the problem: the air outlet comes out of the air cleaner at an angle. I just assumed it was a straight shot into the carb intake... but if you line the two up, the mounting plate for the cannister is at a 10 degree angle to where it should bolt onto the tractor.

LOWER AIR HOSE/ALIGNMENT PROBLEM:
third party image

2-1/4" sure seems like an awfully short dimension to try and get an "S" shaped pipe for- what was the connector pipe like originally?

Do you just use a straight hose and force it to bend to fit? (Seems like that would bend the tin of the air cleaner outlet.)

Thanks in advance guys for any help. Note to F-I-T: Now I understand what you were going through! (grin)

Did you weld the hole shut in the exhaust elbow? It looks like it has brass on it.

Myron,

It does. I sent the elbow to the welder to fix the hole in the TOP, but he got ambitious and closed up the drain hole, too!

Oh, well. Since it's brass, it will be easy to drill out a pinhole in it.

Mike,
I see your misalignment problem as just another reason duct tape was invented!!!
Good luck, looks nice!

least one with matching color .:-)

Mike:

Man, I feel for ya brother. Not being familiar with your model, I can't offer anything but sympathy. I do wonder if the original hoses were thinner than the stock we get today, allowing it to be a bit more flexible. Like maybe it was 2 ply, or even one ply. some of the old stuff I get into seem to have thinner walls to the original hoses.

Mike,

On both of our SC's I have run into the same thing. What we have is a small piece of hose that is kind of bent real tight,(hard to explain).

It doesn't appear to be a pre-formed hose on either one.

The one SC is still original and it is just kind of forced into the area.

Things are lookin good for you though, it will be a tractor to be proud of.

I am still lookin for a sc with eagle hitch and live hyd and pto, Glenn in Green bay bought a real nice one in Mich, if he wouldn't have bought it I SURE would have. I think I may need to look for a DC to get the things I want.

Dave startin to thaw in WIS

I would have to look at mine but I know it does not line up perfect either. When the hose gets a little age on it from heat and sun it should soften up to flex a little more. I wonder if Case drilled the mounting brackets according to what air cleaners they had on hand. By the way, my baffle is probably stuck too. After looking at your pictures I thought, where is my baffle as I have never seen it in the cup. Was plowing snow today and checked - the baffle here.

I can't help you with your alignment problem...but I must say that your garage/shop floor is WAY too clean... ;-)

On my SC, I think it came with a cut-off piece of radiator hose. I don't think I have messed around with it, even with all the problems we had with it originally. When I can get some of these other smaller tractors running well, I can take the SC out of service for a while. It seems that no matter what we do, the SC comes into the picture somewhere along the line.

Now...to the 830 and the mystery of the missing oil rings...

On closer inspection, it is carpet!

That's one swell operation you've got going, Mike!

Now, I think we should all put requests in to our wives to have our shops carpeted. A fridge to put beverages in, coffee pot, TV, stereo, and heat/ac would certainly must-haves.

Think it'll fly?

I'm sorry to disappoint guys- but that's my LIVING ROOM, not my shop.

The house doesn't have a garage, and I don't have a wife, so... there's no one to fuss at me for working on tractor parts at the kitchen sink. (grin)
