On this band over disk assembly. How do you take the disk apart so that it can be re-lined? Also, what is involved in replacing the oil seal from the differential? Thanks

Roger,

Roger is telling you exactly what to do, I worked for Case for 25 years & I'd have said the same thing. However, the brake bands & actuators (drums) are available new aftermarket for a reasonable price. If you ever need parts or help call me @ (314) 966-6692.

Steve

The brake disc linings are riveted to the drums, and band linings are riveted to the metal bands. Unless you have a good way to remove and install rivets, it's best to have an automotive or truck repair shop do the riveting. Replacing the brake seals will require removing the retaining screw in the carrier bearing plate. The carrier bearing plate can then be removed. Note the number of shims and keep them together. When putting the carrier bearing plate back in with the new seal and O-ring, be careful when sliding the new seal over the pinion shaft. There is a lip on the pinion shaft that can destroy your new seal. I've used a old smooth soup can, wrapped it around the pinion shaft, slid the carrier bearing plate (with its new seal) over the pinion shaft. Once in place, then pull out the old soup can. This sounds more difficult than it really is.
Good luck.

If you have a "loader" on the 530 CK, it will involve a little more work. After removing the floor board, remove the bolts/nuts that hold the housing to the tractor. Back off and remove the brake adjustment nut. With most CK's with loaders, there isn't enough clearance to remove the housing past the studs because of the loader frame. Remove the bolts that hold the loader frame to the rear axle. Use a port-a-power or screw jack between the tractor and loader frame to force the frame away far enough to get the necessary clearance. Once the housing is off, it's a piece of cake. Just pull the drum assembly off of the pinion shaft. Make sure you replace ALL of the springs in both the drum assembly and the bands. Don't fight the two springs in the drum assembly. Get an old screw driver or rod the size of a screw driver and grind a small notch in the end. Insert that tool into each spring and unhook it. Good luck.
