I was just wondering what the factory wheel color is for a VAC, I have seen f.red front and back; f.red front silver rear; silver both. Just wondering if it is by prefrance. F-I-T's VAC looks awsome with silver both ends.

I went with a silver (actually it's a 1983 Camaro color) to mimick the original galvanized finish that the VAC's had. I believe the earlier V's had black painted rims.
The color I have trouble matching up was the Flambeau Red. Everybody sells it, but none of them match each other!

The black rims were on the older tractors, i think VC's and early VAC's had black rims. After this and the rims were painted silver. If the front wheel is one piece, (no seperate rim) the whole thing should be orange. If it has a wheel and rim as seperate pieces, the wheel should be orange, and the rim should be either black of silver. The back rim should be either silver or black depending on the age, and the wheel is orange.

Silver may look the best, but I remember seeing a new 1951 Case VAC with dark green wheels. Am I crazy??

In Peter Letourneau's book it shows the VAC's with silver wheels front and back. It does however show a VA standard with Black Rims front and back which I think look pretty sharp.

Just checked out mine (a picture of it anyhow since I'm back in NJ) and the wheels look to be Flam Red front and back. Since the only thing on the tractor that was ever repainted was the sheet metal (it's a tannish color, but whoever did it put logos back on. Kind of odd.), I'm guessing that was stock.

Yes, silver on both is in my opnion the best I just did not know what is factory. My 1950 is Case IH red with no sign of original paint, my 1946 has been repainted F.red and shows signs of silver under the paint of one rear wheel. Cant tell if it is origanal or not. I qwn several vintage items and like to keep things factory. I will try to get some pics up soon. Part of my collections include
1951 Chevy 3/4 ton (daily driver)
1956 Olds 88 (to be reconditioned)
1962 Kenworth W 900 (to be my wifes log truck)
and the lists goes on

The most common size I have seen were 10-28. But I have also heard 9-34, 10-34, 9-36, and now I guess 11-28 is a replacement size for 10-28, or at least that is what tire deelers here in northern California tell me.

I'll second the 10-28 vote. I'm pretty certain that is what the tractor shipped with - at least our '48 VAC. It's what was on there until about 15 years ago when we had to change them.
