930 wheatland questions

I just talked to a gentleman with a 930 Wheatland Special tractor. He said that these Wheatlands didn't have 3-pt or PTO.

We started talking, and were wondering if the 3-pt or PTO from a 930 or 830 (that came equipped with it, of course) would work on that Wheatland Special. Anyone know if they can be modified like that, after the fact? The gentleman I was speaking to didn't think that the Wheatland could be modified.

This stems from our quest to either find a medium-size tractor, and use our 830 as a donor tractor (if necessary), or to get that old 830 running. Decisions...decisions...

When you talk 930 wheatland you need to be more specific. is it a western special, is it a six speed or eight speed, and what yr.? all these questions need to be addressed to get a right ans. Having said that I know 1954 through 1966 500,600,900,930's you cannot put on 3point. They all came with the shaft back to the rear for both hyd. and pto. if you ordered one without either you could add them later. if you wanted just hyd. you had to put the hyd. pump and chain drive from shaft. if you just wanted pto you still had to add the chain and hyd. oil because the pto clutch had to be lubercaited.

In an attempt to clear up any confusion, I made the post that it was a Western Special 930. It had the wide-swing drawbar, I guess.

The subject of whether the tractor could be converted to 3-pt and PTO came up, and we didn't know. This has been a pretty good topic - I've learned quite a bit. Thnaks to all that have responded.

It seems to me that every western sp. has the operators platform and fenders in the way not to mention the drivers seat. The tractor was used for pull type equipment.A better use of time woud be to find a tractor with a 3 pt. set -up.

My '63 930 6 speed has a pto but 6 speeds did not have a 3 pt. I also have a '67 930 western 8 speed, it also does not have a 3 pt. instead it has a wide swing drawbar, I would rather it had the 3 pt. I could have the loader on the front & a snowblower on back. I've never seen one, but have heard of aftermarket 3 points for the 6 speeds

...and it was good to hear from you, Dr. Behner

I assume you've been following our ups and downs on this 830, our latest venture... ;-)

(No I still haven't torn into the 1370 power shift...not enough hours in the day or $$$ in the wallet...I guess I'll never learn...)

Yes On P.T.O. Must split tractor at clutch housing & look into flywheel to see if splined p.t.o. drive hub is installed in flywheel. Before coupling tractor back together, drive out plug from top transmison shaft. difference between 830 & 930 p.t.o. is 2 plates & springs. Look into a parts book

I THINK THE HYDRALIC AND HITCH WILL WORD BUT YOU WOULD NEED THE PTO SHAFT AND DRIVE GEAR FROM ANOTHER 930 I BELEIVE, THE WHEATLAND IS CASTED FOR THE ROCK SHAFT ISNT IT?

Maybe I missed the point.I used to have a 930 from new.Probably the best tractor I will ever have owned. If a doner 930 is available for parts, why change anything ,or why not just swap the entire aft end.Anyway as far as I know you would still have the problem with the draft- o- matic features, controls, guts and sensing wishbone.I know nothing about the Wheatland but so far I fail to see what is to be gained.I am prety sure the the 830 parts wont swap because if memory serves me it was a smaller tractor all around.I really would like to hear how this plays out just out of curiosity. what ever -Good luck .John Cooney
