Howdy,

I'm trying to put together an oil bath air cleaner for the '49 SC.

It's never had one on it (been using a paper filter)- but since the old girl is going to her first tractor show in two weeks... I thought I'd see what I could do about setting things right.

I've been scrounging various parts air cleaners for over a year- and after dealing with more rusty crap than I *ever* care to see again- I've finally got a GOOD air cleaner body and a GOOD baffle. (DANG- those guys are hard to get apart when they are all rusted up and rusted out!)

Bruce Nelson was kind enough to mail me an air intake tube, and I found myself an intake cap on Ebay. I already have the stack support bracket.

Now... all I'm lacking is the bottom oil cup itself.

Mr. Livingston didn't have one he could sell me- can anybody else help out? I'd need to have it in my hot little hands by Wednesday, February 11th, 2004.

Thank you in advance.

Hey Texan - did I read on this board several months ago that Wal-Mart sells a small metal mixing bowl that is about the right size? Might get you by until you get an original - you could paint it black. Be sure that the bail is good and tight or it will vibrate off.

Todd,

I forgot to make measurements this morning- but there's a super fancy Viking kitchen store downtown that's right on the way to one of my architectural projects.

I'll go shopping there at lunch later in the week and will report back on my findings...

It will probaby be a worth a laugh when they see me strolling around their store holding the various products up to my rusty air cleaner!

Knowing that place, it might be cheaper to buy N.O.S. (grin)

I bought a RC once, and the bowl was a dang plastic liter pop bottle bottom painted over. Didn't see it till I got it home.

Howdy Todd,

I'll go back and check the archives- but my elephant's memory seems to tell me that the fellow talking about them said they don't sell that size bowl anymore and he'd bought every one he could lay his hands on.

Never hurts to go and browse the aisles, though. My electrolysis anode is a stainless steel potato masher from the grocery store...(just ask Baggsy!)

If not Wal-Mart then maybe a commercial resturant supply company. I bet someone has a stainless bowl the right size. You will be cool with your special chrome SC air-cleaner at the show!:^)
