I have a swing cylinder that has a hair line crack close to the double hose connection. I had it out once and had it welded but it has started leaking again. I need to replace it or is there a good way to repair it. Thanks for any help I can get.

Kim, Is the crack in the weld where the base is welded in the tube, If so , it is repairabe. Disassemble completely , chuck in lathe and remove all the old weld . Reweld with two passes of weld --one of 3/32 and one of 1/8 - 7018 , once started welding do not stop until finished. Same procedure for lift and dump cyl'son 1150 and also the lift cyl's on 977L Cat .

The crack is in the side of the cylinder close to the opposite end from the base. There is a two hose fitting that is welded on the side of the tube. The crack is about 1" away from that fitting. Thanks

This might be a little late as I'm not sure if you fixed your cylinder or not. I can give you a bit of advise. If you do not compleately grind all of the crack out, a die grinder works well, the crack will return. As a former weld inspector I have seen this on many occasions. When we had to repair cracks we would do mag particle testing after grinding to make sure the was no crack left. Often you can't see the crack but some is still there. You could use a penatrant test as that's something that's very easy and in expensive.
