I need to know the diameters of the sleeves and pistons on an 830 diesel. Also, the crankshaft diameters would be good to know as well. The engine had no spun bearings, so we're hoping the rebuild won't be too bad.

I am hoping to get the stuff for the top end, replace the bearings and rings, and put it back together...we'll see how things go.

I still haven't found my manual...might be time to buy another one.

Can anyone help out on the info?

Thanks in advance.

Keep us posted on the overhall, please.
My 830 stuck last fall and I am trying to get other projects done before I start on overhall

I'll certainly do that. The progression speed is largely dependant upon the dimensions that I'm going to get, such as sleeve diameter, piston diameter, etc. I don't know if the '30 series diesels wore the same as the '70 series.

I've been told that the crankshafts in the '30 series diesels have the same characterisitic that the '70 series diesels had, in that the crankshaft really shouldn't be ground more than .010 undersize. So, if the crankshaft measurements show too much wear, I may be looking for a standard size replacement.

Piston dia. top of skirt-4.341-4.345

Sleeve bore diameter-4.375-4.376 Maxout of round-.002 Max. allowable taper-.008

Standard main bearing journal diameter is 2.998-2.999. Desired diametral clearance is .0016-.0046, with max allowable clearance of .0065.

I have absolutely no idea, but the good people at I&T probably do. It says crankpin diameter is 2.748-2.749. Desired bearing clearance is .006. Regrind or re-new crank if crankpin is .001 or more outof round or if taper exceeds .002. Move to Iowa, and I'll let you borrow the book. Good luck.
