I have a few days to try and fix the leaking belt pulley seal on my 1949 Case SC.
This was on the list of things to do last year but . . .

I can access the seal after removing pulley right?

Question 2, anybody figure out a good way to get the pulley off. I dont want to heat it since the paint is new.

Thanks

Randy

You can replace the seal after removing the pulley, and the unscrewing the three bolts that hold on your bearing carrier. As for getting the pulley off, I ended up using a hammer. I had two different gear pullers that did nothing but bend up the pulley, and used a torch and a line of profanities about a mile long to no avale (how do you spell avale?). I ended up getting really frustrated and in desparation hit the pulley on each side with a baby sledge and it fell right off. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have also been at it with no avail.
Do you remember if the shaft is taper or straight?

I can't spell either.

Its been a little bit of time, but I believe it was a straight shaft. I worked on getting that pulley off for well over 8 hours over a couple days, and the baby sledge was what worked. I'd recommend it first, even though it may mess up the paint a little. Good luck, and you may also want to consider replacing the Pto seal, as the s series and va series tractor i've dealt with will often get leaks there as well. If you do replace the pto seal, make sure you don't let the pto shaft slide out of its holder inside the transmission, unless you want to tear into the tranny (my last mistake, but suprisingly easy).

Hey Randy, I looked at hte parts book for the Sc, and it was a tapered shaft, with key. Good luck.

Dug, I've been hitting it with penetrating oil every other day and a good slap with a hammer.
She'll bust loose sooner or later with a taper shaft.
Thanks for the good advice and words of wisdom.
