My father and I have acquired a 1957 Case 430. My question is that on the serial number plate, it has the model number 441-L. Does that model number hold some significance? Is there different versions of the 430? I'm not as versed in the 30 series as I am the grey series, so I'm looking to get educated. Thanks in advance.

Brian; A 441-L would be a row crop gas engine with adjustable width axles and the "L" stands for low speed gearing... Gene

Then the wide front end under now has been put under it by someone after it was originally sold? THe tractor currently has a loader on it, so I could see why it would be changed, but I'm wondering if I should change it back?

Hey Brian: The 430 wasn't released until '60, so it's newer than you think. Yes, there were different styles. Different front axles, Direct drive or C-O-M, Gas or Diesel, Cat. 1 Flexible Hitch or Eagle Hitch.

OK, it may be newer than 57, and I'll go get the serial number once it warms up a little. It is gas, has a wide front end, COM, and Eagle Hitch. It also has the exhuast running down and underneath the tractor. Is that common? What does the "L" in 441- L mean?

Is the loader a case loader??? I have been told by an old case dealer friend that the L stands for loader tractor, as come from the factory. I have a 511B-L

I am not sure if it is a Case loader or not. I didn't see any markings on it that would tell me for sure.
