830 steering linkage

I need to pull the engine out of our 830, and rebuild it. I have the tractor blocked up under the transmission, so the weight is off the front end.

The front end is totally loose, except for the steering linkage that runs alongside the engine on the left side. I took the u-joint near the battery box loose, and the steering linkage is now completely disengaged from the u-joint.

My thought was that if I pulled the front end of the tractor forward, the steering linkage would follow it, and I'd just have the linkage trailing along for the ride. But, it would seem easier if I can remove the linkage completely.

So, here's the question: how does that linkage come off from the front end? The screws that hold the front sheet metal are in pretty bad shape. The grille is off, though.

I have a manual somewhere, but can't find it.

Thanks in advance.

Itis a lot easier to let the steering shaft tag along with the front gear box. Need to be careful as it gets tight going past the bell housing.

Here's what the book says: On axle models, disconnect center steering arm from spindle. On all models, drain steering gear housing and disconnect steering shaft front u-joint. Remove attaching bolts and lift steering gear from support housing. Just that simple, no doubt.
