I have a 580 CK with a diesel engine. There is something wrong with it getting fuel. The tractor will start with some fuel poured into the intake manifold and will run for 15 minuites to an hour but then will begin to surge as if you were going from idle to full throttle and back again real fast. Then the engine will die and once again you have to put some fuel in the intake to start. I have checked the fuel filters and the fuel comes out fine after the filter. Any ideas what this could be? I'm scratching my head about this one.

sounds like youre losing prime somewhere...the ''surging'' youre talkin about is from a lean condition ie: air bubbles in fuel
check all fittings for leaks...also check the fuel line inside tank...i've seen them develop cracks and suck air when fuel level is below crack.
if all this checks out its prob time for a injection pump overhaul.
good luck
