I re-sleaved w/ new pistons last year. About 2" of water was in the oil pan. If it came in throught the exaust, that means it leaked past the rings. Should it have been able to do that w/ new sleeves/piston? My antifreeze never moves & looks good so it's not anti freeze. The water was clear not green. I have a flapper cap on the top of exaust muffler. I guess that's how it got in.
Thanks

Sounds like alot of water to me too. I wonder how much condensation could build up if the sun hit the engine every morning. Do you run it till working temp or alot of start and stop? I try not to start an engine unless I can run it long enough to dry it out again. Just a thought, Dennis..... ..

My 580CK Exhaust Manifold has small holes on the underside/low point of each cylinder port > I think they are there explicitly to prevent rain water and condensation from running into the cylinder. I know that they leak a small amount of exhaust and cause the manifold to rust out locally and leak even more. Mine requires replacement for this reason. 2" would be alot of rain to make it by a flapper! Do you have an unknown enemy?

Thanks guys. It may be only an inch now that I think about it but it seemed like a lot when I drained it. I sits uncovered for several months before I use it for about an hour which may not be enough time to dry it, I don't know. This is a diesel. Can I just air dry the new oil filter? Maybe leave it sit a few weeks w/ the drain plug out to help air it out? Any other tips on cleaning out the water I should try?
Thanks again

Not good to dry and reuse a water soaked filter. Engine oil filters are primarily a cellulose (paper) media . Water tends to swell the media and reduce pore size. The reduced porosity will impede oil flow and may increase pressure drop across the media enough to blow a hole in it. It would be kind of like using a 10 micron filter when you need a 25.
